Fig. 2:  SNC METEORITES ARE YOUNG VOLCANIC ROCKS  All SNC meteorites are volcanic rocks that cooled and crystalized on their parent body very recently in geologic time. The gray shaded area between 1.3 billion years ago and 180 million years ago is the range of crystallization ages for all SNC meteorites that were known in 1983. Also shown are the active volcanic periods for possible SNC parent bodies. A question mark is shown after both Venus and Mars because the current state of volcanic activity for these two planets is not known with complete certainty.
